The Banker

The Banker | Short Bits Vol. 25

The Banker (1989) – Director: William Webb – 3/10 (very mediocre/bad)
The work constitutes a confused thriller significantly hampered by its stillborn attempt to encompass and detail too high a number of subplots and topics within its modest scope: the narrative essentially trifurcates in portraying routine police work, killer’s activities and the importance of journalistic integrity with the female reporter doing a story on the mysterious killings. Consequently, the story ends up touching upon a bit of everything, but depicting nothing in depth for all intents and purposes. The execution generally leaves a lot to be desired, but most importantly, it simply lacks the kind of technical simplicity and efficacy which other low-budgeted efforts of this kind display and whereby they surmount some of their flaws. I realize this is supposed to be just innocuous 1980s fun, but even having adjusted expectations, a lot of it simply turns out to be straight-out junk in my estimation and you can do a whole lot better than this even if you are specifically after something to that effect.
