Memory Run

Memory Run | Short Bits Vol. 34

Memory Run (1995, aka Synapse) Director: Allan A. Goldstein – 4/10 (passable/mediocre)
In spite of the intriguing premise, the flick ultimately fails to deliver in that the conceptual originality is not followed up by technical prowess or any outstanding scripting ingenuity. A large chunk of the material simply comes out pedestrian for the most part, with that being said, one can sporadically descry some flashes of originality, particularly in the scenes portraying corporate tyranny in the film’s dystopia; the topics of transferring consciousness from one body to another and controlling prisoners by means of pain-inducing implants likewise come to the fore occasionally, notwithstanding, most of these graceful instants promptly get outweighed by gratuitous action sequences and subpar acting, which demote the movie to a firmly humdrum status. All in all, though the motion picture also comprises some more compelling and unique elements, most of them are regrettably obscured and nullified by the film’s more salient flaws.
