Johnny Depp transforms into a murderous mobster for BLACK MASS

“Just sayin’ could get you buried real quick.”

Is Johnny Depp back? We think he’s back. In BLACK MASS, Directed by Scott Cooper (Out of the Furnace) Depp stars as the infamous Boston mobster James “Whitey” Bulger who just a couple of years ago was captured after decades of being on the lam. Bulger was known for being a ruthless, violent underworld boss but his intriguing history will surely make for one entertaining movie.

The new trailer is both chilling and funny. It recalls the “How Am I Funny?” scene in GoodFellas and Depp seems to be channeling a bit of Christopher Walken’s ice pick delivery as well.

When it comes to the films that Johnny Depp has been in over the past several years we have been pretty dissapointed on a consistent basis. Basically it’s been one dud after another during that time. When he’s got a good part he always shines, when he’s in MORTDECAI or some other goofy, forgettable movie, it’s a waste of our time. It’s been awhile since he was in a great crime genre film like DONNIE BRASCO or BLOW (two of our favorites). We’re truly hoping BLACK MASS is a return to that kind of undeniable quality where we’re impressed by the sheer excellence of the cast and crew. Take a look at the trailer and see what you think. Is it dark, cool and badass enough?
