Take a vacation in WESTWORLD

Writer-Director Michael Crichton’s 1973 sci-fi/western cult classic WESTWORLD is set in the “near future” where the technological advances have helped to create a new kind of adult themed amusement park called DELOS which is populated by computerized androids who appear to be human and are used to bring the visitors’ fantasies to life. DELOS is comprised of three separate “worlds” vacationers can inhabit: Medieval World (Ancient Europe), Roman World (Ancient Rome) and West World (The Old West).

Two friends, John Blane (James Brolin) and Peter Martin (Richard Benjamin) book a trip to West World where they live the wild life of outlaws. What begins as an exciting excursion where free sex and virtual violence are part of the fun suddenly turns deadly when they encounter a variety of dangers due to a computer virus that affects the android population including a mysterious Gunslinger (Yul Brynner) that begins stalking them.

Crichton not only made a very interesting and entertaining hybrid of sci-fi and westerns, but he also injected a bit of Peckinpah’s style to the action sequences which gave them more of a slo-mo visceral quality and resonance.

The Warner Home Video Blu Ray was initially released on March 3, 2013.
