We’re back with another mad as hell edition of CineFusion, FC’s own weekly in-blog newsletter that we’re using to compile some of the cool film related things (past, present and future) that give us pleasure. This week’s furious highlights includes images from the geekiest event known to man: the San Diego Comic Con!

FROM THE TARANTINO ARCHIVES: The cast of Django Unchained along with QT were at the SDCC to discuss the film. There was also 8 minutes of furious footage shown to the audience. For more detailed info head over to the SITE and read about all the hullabaloo.

SPAGHETTI BEST: Hola companeros! How about a double shot of Sergio Sollima’s Run Man Run? – 12 . As an added bonus we’ve got a rare Dutch treat, get ready because Hallelujah and Sartana Strike Again!

NOW PLAYING ON THE DEUCE: This week we’d like to point you toward one of our favorite subgenres in the classic exploitation world. It is what the Japanese originally referred to as “Macaroni Combat“, (a spin on the Spaghetti Western term). We’ve chosen two classics: Eagles Over London and Inglorious Bastards for you to check out!

FURIOUS PICKS: We couldn’t leave our classic Man of Steel rant out of this special super SDCC edition. Read our thoughts on where Ol Supes currently places on our comic book hero list. The real question we have is: Can Zack Snyder & Co bring him back from irrelevancy?

Richard D. Zanuck (1934-2012) – If you love movies, you already know that the late Mr. Zanuck was one of the greats. A man who followed in his legendary father’s footsteps and became one of the most successful people in the industry bringing a wide variety of classic stories to the big screen. Some of his credits include: SSSSSSS, Willie Dynamite, The Eiger Sanction, Jaws, Neighbors, Cocoon, Driving Miss Daisy, Rules of Engagement, Road to Perdition, Clash of The Titans and Dark Shadows among others. We’d like to say Thanks for all his great work over the years!

Sage Stallone (1976-2012) – We were shocked and saddened to hear that Sylvester Stallone’s son who had worked with him on Rocky V and went on to write/direct as well as start Grindhouse Releasing, a popular exploitation film DVD distribution company, died last week. We would just like to offer our heartfelt condolensces to his family and friends.

Iron Man 3 armor
Iron Man 3 Suit – Fans of the popular Marvel Comics hero turned movie star got a glimpse of the latest version of the Stark armor that will be featured in the 3rd installment of the series written and directed by Shane Black. It’s clearly inspired by The Extremis storyline, but no specifics have been given as to how the new design will actually play into the story. We can only predict that its some type of bio-tech version of the suit.

Godzilla Teaser
Godzilla Teaser Poster – The legendary gargantuan green lizard has been one of my favorite movie characters ever since childhood. Every weekend I’d watch Creature Double Feature which would show all the Toho kaiju classics of the 60s and 70s and just have a blast. In the 1990s, Director Roland Emmerich tried to bring Godzilla back with a movie that ultimately laid a rotten egg on viewers. At this years Comic Con, a teaser for the Legendary Pictures reboot was shown. It is directed by Gareth Edwards (Monsters) and the reactions were very positive. It is described by the filmmaker as being more grounded in reality and not your typical fantastic, alternate universe, sci-fi movie. The poster has a sort of old school Japanese Kurosawa style that I really like. A good sign I think!

Man of Steel teaser poster
Man of Steel Teaser Poster – Director Zack Snyder gave the SDCC audience a sneak peek at his highly anticipated reboot of Superman which is being produced by Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight Trilogy). The descriptions of the footage give us a clue that Snyder is going for a more serious, modern aesthetic with his vision, which can only be a good thing. The film stars British actor Henry Cavill as Clark/Superman and has a superb supporting cast including Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Amy Adams, Russell Crowe and Michael Shannon. A short teaser will play before The Dark Knight Rises which opens Friday, so get ready for some Super thrills!

MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE: PHASE TWO – Promotional banners for the next wave of Marvel super hero sequels/originals were unveiled at the SDCC. We can’t wait to experience the continuing adventures of Iron Man, Captain America and Thor as well as welcoming newcomers: Ant Man and the Guardians of the Galaxy to the MCU family!

Guardians of The Galaxy concept art
Guardians of The Galaxy concept art – I’ve been a Marvel Comics fan since a young age but I actually never read GOTG, I was more into Spider Man, Punisher, Wolverine, Hulk etc. So this group of intergalactic heroes (including Star Lord, Nova, Drax The Destroyer, Gamora, Adam Warlock, Rocket Raccoon and Groot) will be brand new to me. The main baddie in the Guardians world is Thanos (one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe), who we saw appear at the end of The Avengers. Of course Marvel has got their stories all mapped out and tied together now. So all we can do is wait and see how the next phase of the MCU comes together!

Until next time: Stay Furious!
