William Friedkin Proudly Presents SORCERER

On April 14, 2014 Warner Home Video will be releasing the long awaited fully restored edition of William Friedkin’s 1977 cult classic SORCERER on high definition Blu Ray. We can’t wait to finally see this masterpiece in all its cinematic glory!

HISTORY: In 1977, SORCERER arrived in theaters following the blockbuster success of George Lucas’ STAR WARS. The sci fi space opera undoubtedly changed the mindset of moviegoers from then on and Friedkin’s smaller film was caught in its wake. In addition audiences seemed to be confused by the title which suggested it was a supernatural story like The Exorcist. Due to a variety of problems, Sorcerer dissapeared and became something of a myth amongst film fans only receiving a minor release on home video. Over the past 3 decades the movie has been re-assessed by critics and fans alike who have praised it for being a powerful work of visionary cinema and one of Friedkin’s very best. It was also one of the last movies to be made in the 70s New Hollywood era before blockbusters became the money making standard for the studios.

BLU RAY: The upcoming release will include a newly remastered 5.1 Surround Sound Audio Mix as well as a commentary by Director William Friedkin and a 40-page Blu-ray DigiBook filled with images from the film and excerpts from the book, “The Friedkin Connection: A Memoir.” This will be something for longtime fans and collectors to treasure seeing the film’s incredibly turbulent history and the tremendous amount of effort that went into bringing it back into public view after decades of red tape and difficulties locating the original negative.

Synopsis: Set on the edge of a South American jungle, a desperate four-man team, led by Roy Scheider, must transport a volatile cargo of nitroglycerine over 200 miles of treacherous terrain in order to stop a potentially disastrous oil fire. Featuring a beautiful soundtrack by Tangerine Dream. Also starring Francisco Rabal, Amidou, Bruno Cremer, Ramon Bieri, and Joe Spinell.
